April 2023 Wander Part 3: Calhoun County

After wandering Greene County all day we were getting tired. We were staying overnight in Jerseyville. There is not exactly a plethora of motels in the area. We went with a Super 8 because well, that's what there was. First however we found a delightful bar/restaurant in town, George's Local Brew. We had a drink or two and people watched. Then we got some food to go and headed to our motel (see picture above). I didn't see the holes in the curtains until morning and they really made me giggle. The turquoise recliners was comfortable despite being a bit, uhh, worn. Honestly though, it was clean, if not high end, so no complaints.

It's been SO long since we had one of standard wander breakfasts. And my iced tea had an iced tea spoon in it---small pleasures!

One last picture from Jerseyville---that little turret or minaret on the corner! Oh, and look at the glass on storefront of the red brick part of the building.

I loved the Calhoun Variety sign tucked behind the newer Mexican restaurant sign.

Word is the Hardin Hotel is for sale.

I love some good sagging clapboard. Vinyl siding hides that shit.

The faintest outline of 'Village of Pearl' is still over the door.

Oh, limestone, how I love thee.

Aw, this one hurts a bit.

Look at the stained glass on those doors!

You don't see these too often anymore.

More to follow!
