More Weekend Notes
1. Ernie and I were sitting in our front yard as we are wont to do---him with a crossword, me with a cooking magazine. Two guys came walking over carrying clipboards being ultra friendly. Introduced themselves as representatives from APX and gave us their spiel about giving us FREE security equipment. I didn’t cut them off early enough so I sat there nodding and even began thinking….gee, maybe this would be good. Ernie finally gave me enough “what the hell is wrong with you” glances so I declined. I looked at the paperwork after they left and noticed they were out of Provo, Utah. I wondered aloud if it were a Mormon company. We continued with our reading/wording and then Ernie commented, “now the Mormons are coming.” I thought he meant more APX guys but no, sure enough, two Mormon missionaries were coming across the yard. Now, I don’t know if I have ever given you the story of Ernie being formally ex-communicated by the Mormon church or not but suffice to say he gets a little antsy around anything relating to Mormons. The boys were sweet though and I respect what they are doing and believe so I just said I appreciated them coming by but didn’t want to talk right now. I swear to God the tall blonde one could have been a young little Ernie if he’d stayed in Utah. They left after giving me a number to call for a Book of Mormon and Ernie broke out into “Get Thee Behind Me Satan” by Billy Joe Shaver and went back to crossword puzzle. Pretty ironice and amusing all around…..
2. Dinner was good with my Mom. She was tired though and started crying about my father. Then she was quizzing me on why it had all happened so fast and I’m trying to remember everything the doctor had said but I gotta say it’s starting to become a blur. We used the new ramp and got her in the house no problem but trying to help her use our bathroom was a nightmare. We don’t have any bars for her to hold onto. It made me realize how weak she is getting and how hard it is to navigate a wheelchair in our house. Getting her out on the ramp didn’t work as well although we managed it. I just don’t know. I was exhausted afterward and went to bed early even though I couldn’t fall asleep.
3. I’ve been trying to remember who did this song for ages. I kept thinking it was the Stranglers although that didn’t seem right. Something finally clicked and I remembered it was the Saints. I love Chris Bailey’s voice and I think he’s damn cute in this video.
4. It was so nice to have all that fresh produce yesterday that I felt like messing with it. So besides getting stuff ready for dinner I also went ahead and blanched the green beans and roasted the beats so they’ll be ready to finish off quickly for dinner during the week.
5. Here are a couple of garden pictures....I realize you look at the same images of zinnias, etc. from me every year.....but every year I am amazed by them....
5. Oh, and last but not least.....the other day I asked if anyone knew how long the Rose Bowl in Urbana around. My esteemed husband took it upon himself to call and ask. What an idea! I would have spent three weeks googling before doing such a thing. Anyway, it has been there since 1947---went to a country music theme in the late 50's and the current owner has had it for 14 years.
