Better Days

Saturday.

Hmmmm.

Usually Saturdays are pretty good.

But I’m worried about my sister who isn’t feeling well and seems to think she can make me not worry about her.  Just because I’m stressed out (hey, it’s a way of life) she thinks I can’t take care of her but we CAN.  I know we can.

Anyway.

This morning Owen tried out for the Nutcracker.  Great excitement.  We'll find out later tonight.

However, things deteriorated after that until I got so mad at my children and my husband that I left the house and drove aimlessly until it was time to pick my mother up for her haircut.  Had problems getting her from the car into her wheelchair.  Guess curbs are no longer an option.  It was a tad stressful.  By the time we got into the salon the owner looked at me and said, “do you want a glass of cold water?”  I guess she could tell and I took it gratefully.  Haircuts were fine although I should have had her cut mine shorter.  She said Ernie did a pretty good job when he cut mine.

Drove my mom back to her house and then trundled off to Schnuck’s.  It was crowded and people were irritating me but I managed to spend $70 plus dollars on pork chops, arugula, toilet paper, frozen ravioli, bread, peanut butter, wine, jelly, beer and a couple of other things I can’t remember.  The checker rung me up and then I asked if she could scan my little Schnucks’- thingy-that-gives-you-credit-on-gas-depending-on-how-much-you-spend and she said, “oh, it’s too late but it wouldn’t have mattered anyway because it was almost all alcohol.”

This was not the day to say something like that to me.

I said, “It is NOT all alcohol in that cart” and she shrugged and sent me to customer service where I spit out, “IwishyouwouldhaveyourcheckersscanthesethingswhenIbroughtitupshetoldmethatitdidn’tmatterbecause
itwasmostlyalcholoanImustsayIreallydon’tappreciatethatresponse”

I think he could tell not to engage me further because I was ready to blow and just was properly apologetic and credited my little thingy.  Then I cried all the way home.

You know, when Kenny, Pat and Paul were here they sang Better Days by the Kinks.  I’ve searched for a video to no avail.  And I know there will be better days.  I know that.

I just want them now.
