DT Champaign.....ain't what it used to be....

My blog friend Susan passed this along.  I don't think I'd heard of it but then again I'm spacy these days.  Anyway....thought it was of interest and I always like it when stores ask for suggestions....  By the way----is something still going into the old JBJ building?  What is going on with that?  You're the one with all the answers LBOTP.......let us know....

We are onlytwo months away from the grand opening of B. Lime, Champaign'sfirst green store!

In the weeks ahead, we will be selecting andordering every single item that will inhabit the store, and we would likeyour suggestions!
Are there specificproducts you would like us to carry? Do you know of local artists, designers or manufacturers that we should feature? If so, please send usa message or post on our wall.

The sky's the limit, really. Although we won't be selling hybrid cars or wind turbines(sorry), the focus is on helping you and the community become moresustainable, eco-conscious, and in the end, healthier. The cultureof the store is modern, trendy, smart and fun.  Sophisticated andurban? Yes. Practical? Yes, that too.

The spectrum of productsis impressive and diverse -- we're talking sustainable furniture, nontoxic pet toys, solar ipod chargers, vegan cosmetics, organic cottonlinens, reusable diapers, baby accessories, bamboo graphic tees, laptopbags, recycled jewelry, herbal teas, healthy snacks, natural cleaningsolutions, and even men's retro sneakers made from earth-friendlymaterials... and that is just to name a few. As we say, almost everythingcan be "greenified."  We also say that green doesn't haveto be serious... hence, we chose the coolest shade of green... LIME.

The space itself is beingrenovated as I type.  As you may know, we are located at 12 E.Washington in The Hickorybuilding downtown Champaign nearby KoFusion, Bentley's,Evolve Fitness, Soma Lounge,Escobar's, and the site of the new M2 condo highrise.  Last week, the entire old storefront was demolished and a new glass storefront wasordered. We selected the company that will create our sign, and it willbe made entirely of recycled aluminum and reclaimed hardwood. Thelighting design took shape as well. We will use only xenon andfluorescent bulbs in order to minimize our energy consumption.  Latelast week, our interior designer guided us in the color selectionprocess. Making the final cut are: lime green (of course), chocolatebrown, deep aqua, bougainvellia (think persimmony pink), and a warmedsilver tone.

Other eco-friendlyaspects of the building include bamboo flooring, zero-VOC paint, low-eglass, new high-efficiency heating and air cooling system, timedlow-voltage lighting, recycled glass pendant fixtures, reclaimed woodshelving and displays, and energy-star electronics. Our cash wrap deskwill be made from reclaimed barn wood, and the flooring for the officewill be made from recycled materials. Most importantly, the entirebuilding (including the eleven apartments above us) was renovated green, and features a green roof complete with trees and plant life. Thepractice of green roofing has increased 85% in the past year, and we arehappy to be part of that.

We look forward tohearing your suggestions and comments!  If you are a Facebookmember, join ourfacebookgroup page and invite friends so that they can also getupdates.  Media inquiries and bloggers are welcome!
