My day. sigh.
Had a lousy day at work yesterday. Nothing dramatically bad...just one of those days where nothing seems to go as you want it to. By the time I left I had a pounding headache---whether from work or the changing weather I don't know but it was definitely pounding. I walked in the front door and Owen bounced over to meet me delightedly announcing that he'd had a bloody nose. I looked and sure enough...some bits of blood around that cute little nose. I did the Mommy thing and oohed and ahhed, hugged and kissed. I asked what happened and Owen said that Leo had kicked him in the face. I casually said, "oh well, it was an accident wasn't it?" only to be met by a little blonde head nodding no. I looked up at Ernie across the room and he was doing the same thing.
The world stopped spinning.
Leo. Kicked. Him. In. The. Face.
LEO!
LEO!
Ernie pointed into the media room and I walked in, making little inefficient oh-oh-oh noises in shock and saw Leo laying face down on the couch crying. He convulsed a little when I got close to him so I just told him I loved him and left. I mean I really didn't have to say anything....he KNEW. Physical violence is generally not his style. Later we had a brief talk and he apologized to his brother. Of course Owen's going to milk this for all it's worth. Leo did point out to me that Owen had once given HIM a bloody nose by hitting him in the head with a hockey stick but I countered that Owen had been punished for that and he just nodded.
It was an argument over the playstation which has been causing too many arguments of late so it's being packed up today for awhile.
sigh.
Then I found the note from school saying head lice had been found in Leo's classroom. Then Leo told me he didn't want to take part in the enrichment program this year because it is boring. Then I talked to my sister who wasn't feeling well and was a bit down. I wish I were closer and I wish her oncologist were a little more mmmm, I don't know.....nurturing? Instead of saying that he gets tired too when she told him she had terrible fatigue. Then I called my mother who was basically o.k. but got a little teary.
sigh.
Then I drank a glass of wine.
Then I tried to figure out what to cook for dinner.
Then I thought about how I'm not going to be able palm off frozen waffles or macaroni and cheese for dinner when my mother is living with us.
Then I had another glass of wine.
Then I watched the convention.
Then I made a pretty good dinner after all.
Then I watched Palin speak.
Then I went to bed.
