My Thankfulness Wore Off....But Then It Snowed....

O.K.....Thanksgiving was good....since then...uh, not so much.  Judi's central line for her chemo has been getting increasing red and uncomfortable and then she had a fever Thursday evening.  So I started Friday morning by calling the cancer center---her oncologist is out of town but I explained that she'd been on antibiotics to no avail.  She got in early afternoon with a very kind oncologist/hematologist that I had seen with my mother---unfortunately he wanted her admitted to the hospital.  You know....a year ago she would have cheerfully agreed but it's not a year ago and she's been through too much.   She did agree to go however and we got her settled.  The infectious disease doc came in and thought it looked more like an allergic reaction rather than an infection---some good news.  Then in the midst of all the chaos she got a call from her realtor---she has an offer on her house.  More check in stuff---realtor calls with a great offer which Judi accepts.  So wonderful news...but then again very hard.  Each step makes the whole thing real and Judi adored her house so this was most definitely mixed.

I'm picking this post up on Sunday---suffice to say that Judi got out of the hospital yesterday midday.  I had just returned home as the nurse said it would be several hours when I got the phone call and went to pick her up.  Ernie had to take her back to the hospital for an hour and a half antibiotic IV---I brought her this morning for another one and then we got the news that it's not an infection so no more IVs.  She also made the decision to have her central line pulled---it's driving her crazy, she can't shower easily with it, she isn't using it right now with the oral chemo and it's not a type they use here so it flummoxes everybody like crazy so we decided to have it pulled.  If she has to get another one it will be a port which will be easier to deal with.

I still feel like hell....my hearing is getting a bit better but it's not quite been the restful time off I was hoping for.  Last night Judi and Ernie left for the hospital at 7:00 and I had a piece of Sasha and Dick's sweet potato pie and went to bed.  I gave the boys strict instructions not to open the door and to come get me if they needed anything.  I was just dying with tiredness.  The boys were angels and came up to bed pretty early---Leo kissed me goodnight and put himself to bed and Owen read me a book while Wally slept on the bed with us.  I woke up around 3:00 because even Owen had decided that it was too crowded in the bed and made himself a little pallet of blankets on the floor.  I got up to go to the bathroom and thought, "hmmmmm.....that sky looks AWFULLY white."  So I peeked and saw a snow covered world.  It made me SO happy.

This morning before Judi and I left for the hospital I gave Ernie strict orders to take some pictures.  Now we're getting ready to make some pot roast with chipotle powder and onions, start the turkey stew and then go buy a Christmas tree.  I guess we salvaged the weekend (oh, my mother was sick too and almost drove me insane but I will refrain from complaining).
