Giving Birth Through the Ear Canal....
Thursday night I tried to give birth through my ear canal.
At least that's what it FELT like. I distinctly remember labor feeling about the same---just in a different part of my body.
Oh man.
Thursday I woke up with my ears all congested from my cold and as the day wore on my ears were feeling weirder and weirder. I worked but got more and more distracted. I left about a half hour early and as I was driving home it was getting worse and worse. I was still thinking that maybe I would cook dinner when I got home and THEN go to the doctor but by the time I got home I just went in, whimpered to Ernie and Judi and left for Convenient Care. I got in pretty quickly and sure enough----infections in both ear canals. They gave me drops and codeine but even with that it was a hellish night....hence the giving birth through the ear canal analogy....
Yesterday I had a fever and slept most of the day. Everyone has been taking good care of me. Owen says that he doesn't care if I'm sick....that I'm STILL a great mom. In fact he said that even when he's mad at me I'm STILL a great mom. (HA!) Leo perched next to me while I was teary with pain, heating pad clutched to my ear and quietly said, "why do you think you're hurting so bad?" When I told him I had an ear infection he seemed relieved. Sometimes I just forget to explain things.....my poor sweet pea.
So today I am feeling better although I can't hear a damn thing. Not all bad given how loud this household is but still somewhat disorienting.
A quiet weekend planned....I was too wretched this morning to go pick up our turkey with Ernie but am trying to get up and around now so I have beets roasting for homemade pickled beets and Ernie is out shopping for a few things so I can make my turkey broth ahead of time.
Tonight I'm going to cook some pork chops and experiment with some sweet potato recipes---thanks for the good ideas guys---as well as all the great comments!
