Lulls and Steps

When my father was descending into the fog of Alzheimer's we never did get used to the progression.  Every time things would change we'd figure out how to deal with it---we'll do x for this, y for that---and we'd get lulled into thinking that things would stay that way.  Then there would be another step.

It feels that way with Judi and I suppose that's to be expected.  In the last week or two I think both Judi and I have felt that there's been a change.  She seems more tired, weaker and had a scary episode of pain on Friday.  I think she and I both panicked as it was after 4:00 and we weren't sure if we could get hold of the doctor. I threw one of my Ultrams into her which she promptly threw up.  I gave her another and got on the phone to the Cancer Center.  The nurse was great and after a series of phone calls and trying to figure out why Schnuck's didn't have the prescription (and why that one pharmacist is so grumpy) we got her some pain pills. It thew us a bit though.

She is still my big sister through it all though.  The other day I was addressing a couple of Christmas cards for her that she wanted to get out.  Each time she would read me the address and then tell me how to abbreviate the state.  You know.....  so and so street, such and such town, "Georgia and that's GA."  Finally I told her that I had actually been abbreviating states on my own for several years now.  She just grinned.

I love you Judi.
