Rain, Relaxation and Random Notes

1.  As those of you who read this regularly know, it's been a somewhat stressful year for us. We did have a good trip to Maine in the summer but as wonderful as that is it's a fair amount of work (packing, driving, schlepping children, etc.) and that's why I feel as though this week is the first break I've had in a long, long while.  I'm off work until the 5th (well...may have to do a bit but not too much) and we don't really have any plans....a few errands, a doctor appointment for Judi, need to get Owen new glasses....but that's about it.  Oh...well I do have to figure out Owen's birthday party plans as his birthday is on the 4th (whoops---coming up quick) but overall I feel like maybe we can relax a little bit.  Thus...I am sitting here poking around blogs and facebook (I'm still a failure at facebook---I think the problem is that I share so much here that there's not much left over for other internet spots), watching it rain, listing to the thunder and putting off getting some meat pie for breakfast even though I'm hungry.  See then I'd have to move.....

2.  I was listening to some Christmas music on iTunes I got from Sal's site and then it moved into a bunch of Vertebrats stuff.  I thought about going back to the Christmas stuff but the Vertebrats sound perfect to me right now.  It was a hopeful time in my life when I fell in love with the brats and as hard as I know some of next year will be....there's hope there too.

3.  Leo was supremely happy on Christmas and a happy Leo is a wonderful thing.  Things that came out of his mouth that day:

This is the best Christmas I've ever had.

You're the best Dad in the world.

Owen, you just need to take a break...go watch some Indiana Jones and you'll feel better.

Owen, I don't think you have the Christmas spirit.

Dad, come help me find a piece of Lego I need.

Dad, come help me find a piece of Lego I need.

Dad, come help me find a piece of Lego I need.

I love you too.

Merry Christmas Mom.

4.  Ernie and I didn't exchange gifts.  Having our guys here----Kieran Kane, Kevin Welch, Fats Kaplin and Lucas Kane----for our anniversary party made up our birthday, anniversary and Christmas gifts for the next decade or so.  It was well worth it and we spent some time remembering it. It was a wonderfully bright spot in a hard year and I'm so glad we did it.  Merry Christmas Ernie!

5.  Bob the cat has a penchant for digging through piles of Lego (of which there are many in this house) and picking up the little rubber wheels in his mouth and absconding with them.  We realized the wheels from Owen's new Indiana Jones Peril in Peru were missing so Ernie went on a hunt for them.  Bob has a habit of laying in front of the refrigerator peering underneath----we thought it was probably a mouse.  Turns out it's where he hides his wheels.  Ernie dragged 18 wheels out from under the refrigeratorl  Bob, Bob, Bob....

6.  I'm thinking of dumping the boys on my Mom and taking Ernie out to lunch.  What do you think?
