The Sandwich Life: The Day that Shall Live in Infamy

Today was supposed to be a busy day-----it's my father's birthday today and kind Annette was having a mass said in his honor so Debbie, Owen and I going to go to 9:00 mass.  However, yesterday I was feeling so bad that I went back to Convenient Care.  I even felt rather virtuous since usually I just say, 'eh, what are they going to do?'  Since Ernie and I are leaving for South Carolina tomorrow though I figured it would be the smart, adult thing to do since my throat hurts so much I sometimes whimper when I swallow.  So of course I sat in the waiting room for an hour, they called me in to take my blood pressure, etc. then sent me back to the waiting room as they had no free exam rooms.  Eventually I got called back in, they did a strep test, it was negative and I was told to drink plenty of fluids.  I know that was probably the only thing they could do but I still felt rather hostile.  I didn't sleep much last night as I was in such pain---so when I woke up I felt so awful that I canceled on Debbie.  I felt terrible about it but she and Mom were really kind and Mom went with her.  I canceled all the other things I was supposed to do today---a luncheon at work and then having everyone over for dinner for Dad's birthday.

Instead I slept until 10:00 and then orchestrated getting the guys to finish the Christmas trees.  I have my six hour roast pork in the oven...well I should say Ernie has my six hour roast pork in the oven....so the house smells good and we have the Frank Sinatra christmas album on....

Debbie will come over later to get instructions (and some of my roast pork)----the poor woman will be in charge of the guys for the next three days while we are away.  Wish her luck.

We'll take off tomorrow, after getting the boys off to school, and drive to South Carolina---about 11 or 12 hours.  Wednesday morning we'll pick up a rental truck and pack up what we are taking for Judi's house.  It feels very strange.  Then we'll drive back on Wednesday.....that's the plan anyway.  Wish us luck.

and wish my Dad a Happy Birthday.
