Laughing at Your Children and Other Sunday Notes

Sunday was just one of those days.  Just one of those days.  Sigh.  It started out o.k. with Ernie making his renowned biscuits but things began to deteriorate not long after.  I took away DS and computer privileges for the day (just for Leo and Owen, not Ernie) which led to lumpen sobbing and phenomenally irritating whining respectively.  Then I figured I should check in on my mother.  We had been planning for a pleasant sunny day and bringing my mother over for lunch.  Well it was gray out and when I called she was sick and hadn't been able to get out of bed to take her insulin.  So I headed over.  Couldn't get any food into her so I went to the store and bought some Ensure and other groceries.  Yup, she's now preferring Ensure over food.  Got some of that into her and her insulin.  I asked her why she hadn't called me and she said she couldn't remember my phone number so I programmed my number into her phones and went through the Mem 3 TALK routine a few times for her....we'll see.  I sat with her for awhile until she seemed to be doing a little better.

Got home feeling a little blue.  The boys were outside playing for a good chunk of the afternoon until Leo came stomping down the alley with Owen following behind demanding the return of his gun.  Leo's anger vibrated him right into the house and I called over Owen to get an explanation.  He told me that Leo had shot him.  I stupidly said, "well, you're playing with guns, isn't that what you're supposed to do?" (and YES I am the mother that wasn't going to let them play with guns).  He looked outraged and said, "NOT when you're on the same team.....so then I accidentally kicked him."  I said, "well maybe he accidentally shot you."  He said, "NO, he said he was going to shoot me and then made the noise."  I decided to drop that subject and asked him how he had come to 'accidentally' kick him.  He kept trying to explain that he was just taking a step and by accident he took a bigger step then he had planned and accidentally kicked Leo.  He kept trying different versions of this---looking for one that would seem plausible and by GOD I tried to keep a straight face but I am only human.  I couldn't help it...I started giggling and I giggled so hard that my stomach hurt and I started coughing but I just kept giggling.  Owen looked absolutely outraged.

Yup...that's how he looked.  I took the picture and kept giggling until he left and marched into the house in disgust, looking back at me periodically in disbelief that I was still laughing.  I haven't laughed that hard in awhile.  Ernie went into the house to try to smooth things over.  I told him "just tell him I laughed accidentally" and then laughed some more.

The rest of the day pretty much sucked to use a technical term but I won't forget that giggle for awhile.
