Parting with things....

Ernie’s doing an an antique show this weekend and we’re trying to focus on getting ready for it. Easier said than done it seems. We took a lot of things from Judi’s house with the intent of selling them so we’re pulling them out and trying to think about prices.

But you know what?

I’m having a hard time with the idea of parting with them.  I mean things I really can’t use, don’t have space for….but just the same….  We’ve been selling antiques for mmmm, I don’t know, close to 20 years and have gotten used to the idea of things coming and going….  I guess there’s just been so much loss in my life of late that I am hanging on to these things in a different way than I normally would.

Also, with Judi’s Honda we are now on #3 of inherited vehicles.  Yeah, we don’t purchase cars or vans the way others might---we just wait until a family members dies and LEAVES us one….first our van when Ernie’s mother died, then my Dad’s car and now Judi’s.  We really don’t need all these vehicles though---and I’m not even particularly fond of my Dad’s car…..but that damn car meant SO much to him.  It was such a symbol of freedom to him and it broke his heart when he couldn’t drive any longer.  And now the thought of getting rid of it breaks mine…..just like the thought of selling some of Judi’s things.
