Random Notes from the Sandwich Life
1. An email from Amazon just popped into my inbox with suggestions on books about careers and the economy. Gee thanks. I guess I'll think about my career in my next life....
2. Do you know what happens when you stand several feet away from a garter snake and yell, "go away, go away, just go AWAY" in a plaintive voice? It ignores you and slithers on its merry way.
3. I came up with brilliant idea that we could go see Kane Welch Kaplin in Columbus, Ohio next weekend. I even figured out where the guys could stay.... It turns out the show time is 8:00 though and I wouldn't be able to leave town until 3:00 at the very, very earliest.... I think that's cutting it too tight, isn't it? Damn, damn, damn....
4. I have other things to look forward to however----I finally finished making the hotel reservations for the trip to Maine. I swear the the hotels seem a lot cheaper to me this year......recession anybody?
5. Judi gave Ernie and me this Japanese fern back when we first moved into this house. It's taken forever to finally take off but at last it seems happy and settled....
6. Sunday afternoon I was sitting outside and I innocently thought to myself how nice it is when it's warm out and yet we have no mosquitos. DAMN.... I jinxed myself....lots of bites....isn't it too early?
7. Here is a Kevin Welch video that I love. I won't comment on how much younger he and Henderson look as given that we had this album when it was new we must be looking um, a fair amount older as well....wish I'd aged as well as those two however.... Oh, and do watch for Henderson's push button guitar.... (you may get a commercial before or after it I'm afraid....)
8. Surprisingly enough the CMT site actually has some good videos on it----not just mainstream stuff. The commercials are the downside although they don't seem to show up the first time you watch something. Here's a great version of Kane Welch Kaplin's Monkey Jump....
9. Ran to a consignment store after work in the rain and bought a bunch of stuff for the guys as they've pretty much outgrown everything. Then went home, found happy boys and a gift of Jiffy Pop from Ernie. I was so excited....I ALWAYS wanted to get Jiffy Pop when I was a kid but we rarely did. Leo asked me why I didn't just buy it for myself. I told him that sometimes it's more fun when someone thinks of you and buys it FOR you. He thought about it and said, "well, Daddy ought to buy it for you more often." I was quite flattered. He's still on a new room high. Then we watched the end of the first Harry Potter movie. Owen loved it but he TALKED through the whole thing! He kind of narrates what's happening, makes comments, asks questions and is absolutely wounded if you ask him to be quiet and listen. It's somewhat exhausting but would be quite endearing if you didn't want to actually hear the movie. Later that evening Ernie and I were watching a few minutes of a dreadful sitcom and he started doing the EXACT SAME THING. I glared at him and said, "you are SO much like Owen" and from the living room came the response, "but in a GOOD way, right Mommy?" Yes Owen....in a good way. Leo didn't want to admit that he liked the movie but he sat with us anyway..... Man I love those boys. As you know, it's hard to get a picture of Leo but here is a silhouette of him watching......it was so nice to listen to the rain and know that my seeds and plants were drinking it in....
and please ignore the stains on the stove....I was cooking.....honest....
