More Steps....

Taking yesterday off to deal with Judi’s estate stuff was a brilliant idea if I do say so myself.  I sat down and just plowed through the phone calls.  Although oddly enough, they got harder and harder instead of the other way around.  The first call or two were annoying and that was really better-----as they wore on and I was talking to ‘survivor benefit team members’ and the like they got more and more sympathetic and that was BAD.  The nicer you are to me the sadder I get so by the end when somebody would say ‘please accept my sympathies on your loss’ or something like that I would say 'thank you' in a stop-being-nice-to-me-or-I’ll-cry voice.  After I finished the calls, I canceled a few things such as her gmail account and the like.  It seems odd to have remnants of her online….I deleted her facebook right away but am just now getting to other things….

We ran errands as well---including one to Best Buy, a place I try to avoid at all costs but sometimes seems unavoidable.  I was just going to order what I wanted online (because I’m much happier that way) but I checked their website and it said the things I wanted were available at our local store so I figured it wouldn’t KILL me to go there and I would save shipping costs, etc.  So we wandered in a little giggly….for whatever reason we always get a little giggly in places like that.  A very pleasant blue shirted man asked if we needed help and I told him what I was looking for.  He led me over to the shelf where it should have been to no avail.  I told him I had checked store availability online that morning and the site had said it was in stock.  He looked and looked some more.  Looked in the back and then looked some more and finally said they didn’t have it.  I said, ‘what if I go home and request it online for instore pick up?’  He assured me then they would find it….  I asked why they couldn’t find it now.  He said that was a different team.  I asked if we could ask said team to find it NOW.  I pointed out that it didn’t make much sense for me to leave the store, go home, request it online and then come BACK to the store.  He was looking somewhat miserable at this point but did agree.  Suffice to say numerous  blue shirted people were looking at this point.  Finally he said there inventory numbers must be mistaken.  I took pity on them and said, “I’ve worked retail…..I understand.”  Sigh.  So we bought one of the three things we’d gone there for and went home and ordered the others online.  What will I do next time?  Probably just order the damn stuff online and skip the whole shopping experience…..

All in all a very productive day however.....it feels good to have made another step forward....  Today I need to fax a letter and her death certificate off somewhere and Ernie will mail her computer back to Clemson.  More steps....
