Random Notes from a Floating Holiday

1.  This is a leisurely morning post because I am taking one of my floating holidays today so I can spend some time dealing with Judi's estate stuff.  I've got various phone calls to make and it's hard to do in my miniscule shared office so I decided to take the day and try to get as much done as possible.

2.  I believe Owen actually got to school on time today.  Yesterday he was late so there was no tv/computer/ds/playstation for the rest of the day and he was not so pleased about this new rule. Today he walked out the front door and heard the first bell (one of the benefits of living two blocks from the school) and took off running, his little backpack shaking.  He turned around at one point and yelled, "I can still play with my stuff, right?"  I yelled back, "as long as you're on time" and he sped up and rounded the corner....and that was the last we saw of  him.  We strolled home giggling and got to catch up with our friend Becca on the corner.  Man, I wish every morning were like this!

3.  Speaking of my handsome youngest son, he escorted my mother and me to a wedding on Saturday evening.  I was encouraging Leo and Ernie to go but they didn’t want to----Ernie didn’t feel great that day, of COURSE Leo didn’t want to go, and I think Owen really wanted to be the sole representative of the males of the family.  He came up with his own ensemble, I’m not sure WHY he included the black gloves but he seemed to think it important.  He was an incredible date as always.  When the bride told him he looked handsome he just smiled and said, “well, you look better.”  Ahhhh, that boy’s a keeper…..

(note:  he felt so good in his ensemble that he dressed up like this the following day just to go to the park)

4.  Sunday night I got to see my beloved Gisela and meet her family. It was a whirlwind trip for them for commencement as the University she's teaching at in Puerto Rico is still in session.  She's now officially Gisela Ph.D though and I am so proud of her.  It was SO wonderful to meet her family----all of them gorgeous and warm as I had imagined them--and a wonderful party as well.  It reminded me of why it can be so fun living in Champaign….. Ernie and I were the only ones with English as their first language (well, only language too, but you know what I mean).  There was wonderful music, marvelous food from Carmen and Ivan….great grilled meats, tapas with amazing Spanish ham and anchovies, etc.  We brought some prosecco and we all toasted Gisela.  I miss her so….but it was such a treat to see her and  Iit turned a day in which I wasn’t feeling terribly cheerful right around…..  Here's our slightly blurry picture but really, aren't they gorgeous?

5. I just realized that I have an appointment at the bank this Friday scheduled for the same time as Leo's third grade concert.  Of course this may not be an issue as Leo is quite firm in his plan NOT to go to school that day.  Of course this was his plan for the second grade show but as you remember he did finally agree to take part, he just refused to sing.  God I love that guy.

6.  Wish me luck today....for those of you that know me well, you know that there is little I hate in life, other than cancer, more than MAKING PHONE CALLS!
