Random Notes from the Sandwich Life

1.  BIG NEWS!  We saw the official first firefly of the season.  Last night we were sitting in the front yard when Leo came over to us and said he thought he'd seen a firefly.  We turned to look where he was pointing and there it was lighting up for us.  Many, MANY screams of excitement.  Then Leo saw Batty (the bat) was out and it was all almost too much for us.

2.  Later we sat and watched the huge cloud of lightening that was south of here.   We told the guys they could go to the end of the street to watch as it's a better view.  They came racing back and dragged us down there as well.  Of course we had to take the opportunity to invade our friend Becca's porch.  Ah, Ernie has serious porch envy and Becca could decorate a cardboard box so even her porch is stunning.  Eventually we couldn't see the cloud any longer so we trundled back to our end of the street.

3.  I have been having the oddest dreams lately.  Last night I was in the midst of some convoluted Nazi spy mystery.  I figure I can blame that on the Indiana influence Lego around the house.  If I ever dream that I'm a Lego Power Miner or Rock Monster.....you'll come get me, won't you?

3.  A triumphant Field Day at school yesterday.  I left work early about ten minutes early because Owen was anxious that we wouldn't make it in time.  As it turned out that wasn't a problem.  Ernie had assured me that the first grade started at 12:20.  I thought the kids looked pretty small when they came out....turned out it was the kindergarten.  Sigh.  So we sat there until 1:00 BUT I got a chance to chat with a friend and it was lovely out. Owen was proudly wearing his Superdawg t-shirt....  Ernie watched Leo's grade earlier that morning.  Unfortunately he had to make do with his phone's camera which is a shame as I think Leo looked quite dashing during the tug of war.

4.  I think I REALLY need to get out more as yesterday afternoon we left the boys with Ricky and headed over to St. Joseph.  Driving back home I told Ernie I really felt like we'd been out of town....  When driving ten miles or whatever it is feels like a major trip away....perhaps you're a little too home bound.  It was a gorgeous day though and driving through the fields and small towns always makes us happy....  I was too lazy to stop and take good pictures....

  5. Our trip to St. Joseph was to start hunting for a desk for Owen.  I haven't been over there in ages and ages.  We started at Winter Wheat Antiques and I'd forgotten how much stuff they had (and FYI they're having a 30% off sale/50% on anything under $15....just through tomorrow though).  One desk possibility.  Then we headed over to Mercantile Antiques & Trading (or something like that).  We hadn't been there in so long---it's a totally different animal than it used to be-----it looked really nice.  We need to head back when we're not on a desk mission.  Met the proprietor Debbie there----she was charming and gave us another desk tip.  Then we hit Second Hand Rose which is in the midst of a moving sale and found two possibilities.  Ernie thinks the one I like is too big but I countered that it would give him more room for Lego and eventually when he's older there will be room for a computer and lamp and still have space to work....  We showed Owen pictures and I think he's agreeing with me.  So later he and his father will head over to get it.  It's beat up and will need a bit of attention but it's a big old heavy oak desk which is kind of what I had in mind....

6.  So today's plan is to get Owen's room set up, moving the remains of Judi's room and Leo's room out of there and move his stuff in.....order his comforter, etc. (and YES I'm letting him get camouflage....).  It's nice out though so we'll see......wish us luck....
