TV in my Head and rain....
Last night I still felt kind of rotten so I got into bed early with a book. Owen came upstairs at 9:00 and told that a new Top Chef was on and asked me to come down and watch it. I told him I just wasn’t up to it. He looked at me, all clean and sweet smelling from his shower, and said sadly, “but I miss you Mommy.” I kissed him and told him just to go down and snuggle with Daddy. A few minutes later I went to the bathroom and when I got back he was ensconced in my bed with a book, Bob the cat and a big smile. He told me he missed me too much downstairs. What can you do? I told him it might get awfully hot with all three of us in bed and he said with wide eyes, “oh no, he goes downstairs in the night to look for mice.” I said, “not BOB, I mean your father” but he assured me we would be o.k. Then he chatted for a while about how great it was to have school out so now he could go to the library and get books and read ALL DAY LONG! He put his feet and legs in the air, looking like a little bug on its back, and waved his book over his head. Then he turned to me with big eyes and said, “you know what Mom?” “What,” I asked and he replied with a shriek of delight, “reading is just like TV in your HEAD.”
Later when Ernie came to bed a storm was moving in. I lay there watching the lightening and listening to the rain. Finally I said, “should we check windows?” which was my polite way of saying “Ernie, please go check the windows while I stay here in bed.” Good man that he is he got up and closed a couple of windows. While he was doing that I had the nicest memory of being in bed as a kid and having one my parents come in and put the window down. It was so comforting. Then as the thunder got louder I kept periodically saying in a worried voice, “do you think Leo is o.k?......do you think Leo is o.k?” So finally to shut me up he went and checked on Leo who was sound asleep. So then I could snuggle up to my huge, sweet seven year old and go to sleep listening to the rain…..
I feel better this morning…not wonderful but much better….except that our arbor fell over in the storm-----the thing was supposed to be put in with concrete…..hmmmm. Owen started screaming when he saw it…..first it was MOM MOM MOM and then it became CYNTHIA as he calls me during emergencies…… Who knows…..I hope it’s o.k. but I’m off to work…..
