A Lost Summer Weekend....

Me

It was a bit of a lost weekend.....  Friday evening some friends were supposed to come over and we were just going to order pizza or something but then I got inspired to cook so we smoked some chicken, made some kind of succotash with tons of vegetables and a zucchini and potato gratin.  Then our friends called and canceled because they'd had a horrid day.  So after putting up with Owen driving us insane, listening to the rain and staring at gallons of food we'd made, we decided to just watch a movie.  We spent $4.99 via the on-demand cable and watched Rachel's Wedding----which was very good but good LORD I found it depressing.

Saturday we got up and decided to turn on the air conditioner as it was supposed to be in the 90's.  Remember, we just spent something like $600 on it last month because the flood in the basement had messed it up?  Well, on Saturday it was the condenser.....  DAMN....another couple of hundred dollars........GEEZ....at the least the repair guy was nice and remembered Owen from t-ball.  Then our sainted neighbor Jeff arrived with his chainsaw to  cut our fallen tree up.  I was feeling kind of muzzy-headed so came inside and slowly realized that I didn't feel well.  I sank into some kind of low fever/muzzy headed/stomach kind of thing which left me on the couch for much of the day.  I felt better by evening...ate a normal dinner and went to bed.  I couldn't sleep because I'd slept during the day however so I just kept turning the light back on and reading more of a rather depressing book.  I finally finished it and tossed and turned with a headache and fever again.  A wretched night and today I pretty much just laid on the media room couch alternating between freezing and sweating.  Why the hell do I get these bugs so damn often?

Although I must say if you have to be sick all day, it's not bad to have it be on a Sunday with Cary Grant movies showing continuously....  The Awful Truth is one of my all time favorite movies....  I listened to much of it with my eyes closed which is a shame as it's Cary Grant but o.k. because I could see it in my head....

So now it's Sunday evening, I'm feeling slightly better, the ibuprofen seems to be kicking in....and I realize the weekend is over.

Oh well.
