Good Lord A Mama

Owen doesn't say that anymore.  I wish he did....somehow it's still stuck in my mind though and seemed fitting for the morning....  And it's better than what he was screaming at the top of his lungs as he left for school, "NOBODY UNDERSTANDS ME.....YOU KEEP INTERUPTING ME AND YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND ME"  He doesn't know yet that he won't be touching the computer, the playstation or the tv for the rest of the day.....and also needs to go apologize to our neighbors for screaming like that at 7:25 in the morning....because man....it was LOUD.

That was on the heels (sorry) of the great PE shoe debacle of 2009.  Leo had to sit out PE the other day because he didn't have the right shoes so yesterday the three guys went out to buy shoes.  Unfortunately none met with Leo's approval and then Owen had a meltdown of sorts because he wanted Ernie to buy him a pair of Tony Hawk shoes that were expensive AND unneeded so they ended up fleeing from the store because it was late and they had to pick me up from work (we're down to one car at the moment).  Ernie said Leo could wear a pair of Owen's that were too big for him.  We then went out and had fun (more on that later).  Well karma will bite your ass I guess because the fun we had last night has pretty much been sucked right out of us this morning.  Anyway....suffice to say the frigging shoes didn't FIT Leo so there was THAT tragedy this morning.  Ernie told him he would put off taking grandma to get her bloodwork and go buy some shoes and put them in his locker for him.  Then I made the mistake of calling my mother to tell her that Ernie would be a little late.  Things not so good over there.  She was all confused and then in tears because she doesn't want to be a burden to us and she's upset because she can't remember anything and I never COULD figure out whether she really was supposed to be fasting or not....  I reassured her, talked her down a bit, told her to take her insulin and eat some breakfast and said we'd talk to the doctor about it tomorrow.  Then I got off the phone and said, "well FUCK me."

ha.

HowEVER.....last night WAS fun.  We went to the esteemed Bunnie's in downtown Urbana, had a drink, split some chicken wings and chatted before heading one building over to my beloved Rosebowl. Why have I never gone to Bunnie's?  It's delightful.....

At the Rosebowl we took my favorite seats at the bar although it wasn't necessary ideal this time between the waitress yelling orders next to me and the drunk woman wanting to be my friend.....  I understand the waitress had to yell but STILL.....every so often having things like "A WATER AND A SCHLITZ" tunnel through my head the same time as a JTE song was a bit disconcerting.  Although actually that was better than the really drunk woman wanting to be my friend and holding her cell phone up to me so I could tell her friends where she was....

drunk woman:  "I THINK I'M AT MEMPHIS ON MAIN.....WAIT...WHERE AM I?"

me:  "you're at the Rosebowl."

drunk woman:  "WHERE?....OH HERE....TELL THEM....WHO IS THIS PLAYING?

me, yelling into her cell phone:  "JUSTIN TOWNES EARLE....AT THE ROSEBOWL."

Then she continued yelling to her friend about where she was and the nice lady (me) she was with.  I tried to edge closer to Ernie but at least she was having a good time I guess....  Then another "A PITCHER OF SCHLITZ" would echo through my head....  Ernie went with Shiner Bock....I stuck with my cheap white wine....

But DAMN if I don't love Justin Townes Earle.  Tall and charming and even bought cheese popcorn for his girlfriend.  What's not to like?  Well, and there's all that talent too....

Love him.

Love him.

Ran into our friends Walter and Ray and got to chat, saw my friend Heather even though we never really got a chance to talk...met a new friend named Shelley (sp?).......bought the vinyl of JTE's latest album.  Mind you we have the cd but hell....it's vinyl....and even bought the "Who the fuck is Cory Younts" t-shirt that we didn't get last time....  Ernie said Cory Younts reminded him of Don Gerard and at first I didn't see it but eventually I did....along with the deadpan expression interrupted by a sweet smile every so often.....

All in all a good evening....I guess the karmic blast of this morning didn't entirely erase it....close though....very, very close....  This has been a hell of a week for some reason.....tomorrow is Friday but of course I end the day by taking my mother to see her gerontologist.  We'll see who that goes....AND if the shoes Ernie delivered to his locker fit.....AND if Owen survives the rest of the day.....AND if the van we are about to turn into the shop costs a fortune to fix....AND whatever else happens.....
