Our Beloved Amy Rigby.....What A Party!
Yesterday I was in too much of a happy daze to write about the party. All I did yesterday was hang out and talk with Amy in the morning, (which I could have done all day long), then say good bye to her, meander around picking up beer bottles and cups, try to convince Leo to go out for lunch with us, give up, snack on party leftovers, look for Amy's lost glasses (damn I hope she found them), listen to Amy Rigby cds, lay on the couch, yell at Bob the cat for peeing on the couch because we moved his litter box for the party, google 'get cat urine out of leather,' take a long nap, get up and watch the movie Cars on tv with all three of my boys and listen to them laugh uncontrollably at certain scenes and wonder how long these sweet moments together will last, saute some lovely wild shrimp very simply and serve it with some leftover salads, tell everyone I'm going up to bed to read with a brownie and a glass of wine and then get into bed, eat the brownie, take a sip of wine and just turn out the light and listen to the rain outside....
Here are Parker, Leo, Owen and Dema helping get ready for the party on Friday afternoon. They actually were really a lot of help!
I took no pictures whatsoever during the party. I know! Cynthia not take pictures? I was too busy just enjoying myself. And also because everything just seemed to start so quickly....in addition to no pictures I never lit the candles inside or the other lights outside, not that it mattered. So if anyone has any pictures, would you send them to me?
Amy....well Amy was even more lovely than I could have imagined. Owen, as always, pegged it exactly. Late that night after everybody was gone, he sat there looking at us and said, "it's really funny, you just met today and yet it's like you're really good friends." That's my sweet perceptive Owen. ALL of the boys in the house, Bob the cat included, loved her. Ernie didn't do his shy, quiet thing, he just gave her a hug and happily chatted about music. Owen was right, it did feel as though she was an old friend. Leo, who as we all know can be a rather hard nut to crack just chatted away with her as well. Of course it was mostly about Lego but STILL.....
She sounded absolutely wonderful. Some of the people at the party were already hardcore fans but others didn't know her music and it was so wonderful to watch them fall in love with her. I couldn't have asked for more. My only regret about the party, if there was one, was that I didn't get to talk to everybody. A couple of times I tried to head over to talk with people I didn't know as well but often times I would get pulled away for one reason or another and while Amy was playing I refused to do anything but listen.... So if I didn't get to talk to you much----just know I was happy you were there and NEXT time I'll try to talk more!!! Oh, and everybody was incredibly generous with food and drink! People brought wonderful food----several times people asked who brought something as it was so good but I was so busy I didn't know. Suffice to say---you are all wonderful....given how much food there was it's amazing how little was left! I thought perhaps I'd gone overboard making Ernie smoke the fourth pork shoulder but there was barely any left.... The weather was perfect, there were kids running all over the field playing.... Thanks to everyone, and of course Amy most of all for making it a perfect party....it made Ernie and me SO happy....
Obviously we were MEANT to have Amy at our house because she unlocked the treasure of our big guitar..... We never could figure out what the signature at the top was....we knew it said somebody and the Po Boys but we couldn't read it. She looked at it and immediately figured out that it was Bill Anderson. Whispering Bill Anderson at the top of our guitar and we never even knew it!!!! God I love Amy Rigby....
