Random Boy Notes

1.  Monday already.

oof.

Meet the teacher night on Wednesday.

School starts Thursday.

2.  Owen tried to sleep with us the other night and I ended up doing something I swore I'd never do----I left him in our bed and finally went and slept in HIS bed.  He's just too damn big.  So we had a talk about it and told him....no more...unless there's a storm or he's sick.  So this morning he came and woke me up and cheerfully told me he had slept wonderfully in his bed.  He'd had his rifle and his flashlight with him....just in case you know....but didn't need either of them.

whew.

3.  We took my mother to lunch yesterday.  Sometimes I'll make a plan----tell my mother that we're going to come for dinner or have her over....and then I get all guilty if I have to cancel.  What I've realized though is that I don't need to because she never remembers!!!!  Anyway....we did have a good time.  She was a bit bleary but the boys were in rare form cheerfully chasing each other around the house and they do her a world of good.

3.  Yesterday afternoon as the sky grew gray and the breeze picked up Ernie and I went to sit outside.  We saw our neighbor Ricky outside so Ernie went in and told the boys and seconds later they BURST outside.  The boys absolutely adore Ricky and although Ricky has always been phenomenally patient playing with kids younger than he, now that he is getting older that play time is a bit less.....which makes Ricky time even more deliriously exciting.

The clouds were amazing as they moved and swirled and then sure enough the rain came...   Ernie and I sat on our little porch, our neighbor Dave stood under his side doorway and the boys all took refuge on Dave's porch as we all watched it pour.  The boys ran back and said they needed blankets and pillows to build a shelter on Dave's porch.  I had to say yes because they were positively glowing with excitement.  I saw them run out in the rain with one of the pillows from Judi's daybed and I did flinch a bit because she would have been horrified but then again she was as big a sucker as I am for those two sets of big eyes....

Later the three of them came inside and had pillow fights and computer time until we said it was time to settle down.

Ricky, who is a pickle guy, tasted our refrigerator pickles and pronounced them 'not bad.'

A good day.
