One of Those Nights....

I should be in bed but I'm still wide awake.  Ernie and the boys are sleeping soundly and I sit here....sipping some wine and listening to the Vertebrats.  I'm watching clips from the 1982 Dance Marathon and marveling that those guys were ever that young....does that mean I was too?

I picked my mother up from work and brought her over here for dinner.  We sat outside and ate...and then watched the boys and their friends run around in the field.  My mother said, "no wonder you sit out here and end up eating late."  God I love my mother.  She's always been incredibly cool.  When I was in high school and I'd get home late at night we'd sit in the kitchen and talk....and listen to Van Halen together.  And in the early 90's Ernie and I went to Nashville and saw BR-549 at Robert's Western Wear in their early days----they still had a sax player for God's sake.....and you know why?  My mother sent my a clipping talking about them.....  My mother is just inherently cool.

Ernie took her home after Leo brought her a special treat of his favorite cookie and gave her lots of kisses.  The fact that my boys adore her does my heart good.  Later Owen asked told me he hoped she was all right....he asked me if Daddy had put her to bed.  I told him she could go to bed by herself but it really tugged at my heart.....

Remember when I hurt my knee in Maine?  And Owen yelled, "NO MOM NO" and threw himself on me?  Well my knee is still really hurting a lot....mmmmm.....I guess you could say it's painful.  Every so often it seems better so I don't do anything about it....but damn it's hurting tonight and my ankle below it is getting all swollen.  I guess maybe I should just suck it up and see a doctor....  After all...there's NO way I could dance three sets of the Vertebrats.....

Ha!
