Random Notes from a Sandwich Life Saturday....

1.  A shout out to my beloved Don Gerard, who upon being asked if he could lend a bass amp to a certain bass player, not only unhesitatingly said yes, but drove it over and carried it into the house not ten minutes later. Sweet bass players....nothing better in my book.....

2.  Milktoast rehearsal this afternoon.  I expect it to be quite entertaining.

3.  WONDERFUL dinner last night.  My entertaining becomes more and more relaxed.....this could  become a problem....eventually I will just tell guests to stop at the store and be ready to cook their own meal.  In the meantime we kept it to throwing together whatever we had on hand.  We had Ann, Bob and Sophie over for brats (lamb brats from Country Cottage Farm---incredible and worth EVERY penny by the way) and corn on the cob.  As it was a last minute thing so I looked in the refrigerator and found some green beans Ernie had bought at the Wednesday farmer's market....cooked them and figured I'd toss them with some tomato and viniagrette at the last minute for a side dish.  Unfortunately I realized that we'd neglected to get anything such as even chips and salsa to snack on as we waiting for brats.....so we had green beans for appetizers and they were SO good!  The best green beans we've had all summer.  A wonderfully relaxing evening with the best of friends on a gorgeous night....you really can't get much better than that....

4.  Ernie, Owen and I hit the farmers' market this morning and bought more beans from the same vendor.  I also bought some of my favorite golden cherry tomatoes and triumphantly became the first person to properly identify an herb leaf when asked by our friend Jon.........WOO-HOOOOO.....I FUCKING ROCK.  O.k....it really wasn't that difficult---pineapple sage----but Owen looked awed, said "I can't believe you won Mom" and I put my fist in the air before gratefully accepting my award of a beautiful tomato......

5.  So the Vertebrats (and MILKTOAST) show appears to be sold out on Friday night and Saturday's show has been moved to the Highdive.  How BEYOND appropriate given that the eponymous picture of the Brats that was on all their posters was taken in front of that theater back when it was the Illini (I think that was it).  Anyway....what a wonderful circle....glad I'm part of it.....
