Random, Random Notes from the Sandwich Life
1. We're down to one vehicle at the moment. Our van is in the shop and is going to cost a fortune thank you very much. We're starting to get to that point where you wonder if it's worth it to keep putting money in it and yet I REALLY don't want a car payment. We almost could do without two vehicles but we have to have one that we can use for antique shows and Judi's Honda isn't big enough. The upside to just having one vehicle is that I really enjoy the time I have with Ernie when he drives me to and from work. It's quiet....and it's just US. Very nice.
2. Time is going way too fast. This weekend is Labor Day, next weekend we're doing Legoland and Superdawg, then a couple of weeks later it's Leo's birthday and the Vertebrats AND Milktoast, the next weekend is Leo's birthday party (at one point Ernie suggested having Leo's party on Sunday the 4th.....yeah....the Sunday after spending two nights at the Vertebrats reunion....staying out WAY past my bedtime and then you want me to have a party for a bunch of ten year old guys??? Are you suicidal?), then the next weekend Ernie does a show, then soon after that it's Halloween, then Thanksgiving, the weekend after that is our Christmas party, the weekend after that we're going to Chicago on the train and then it's Christmas....and then it's New Year's and then a few days later it's Owen's birthday and....and.....and.... Can you explain to me how the fuck I'm supposed to stay in the moment?
3. I've been enjoying taking pictures more of late. I feel like some of the last year kind of knocked me out of my normal everyday pleasures of cooking and taking pictures (I can't really call what I do photography but I figure I take a mean snapshot LOL). So taking pleasure in that feels good on a couple of levels....the enjoyment itself and the inkling of a return to normalcy. One of the other things we seemed to lose was going to parks together....we haven't been to Allerton (Leo doesn't let me call it the Park With No Toys anymore) or Meadowbrook in ages.....maybe we could squeeze that in this weekend.... Anyway.....here are a couple of pictures I took yesterday while I was waiting for Ernie to pick me up after work.....
Lots of green after all that pink of my cosmos.....and yes I know that the ginkgo berries are rather suggestive.....but rather nice just the same.....
4. Last night Ernie and I were watching Wide Open Country at 7:30 as we are wont to do. Sometimes it's good, sometimes not but there's usually at least one song I like..... Owen came in and intently watched this video by Ben Kweller. I must say I do have to like the lines
some days are aces
some days are faces, well
some days are twos and threes
Can't argue with that. Anyway Owen LOVED it and was still singing it when we went into the kitchen together to start cooking. I pulled the video up on youtube on the iMac in the kitchen and played it while Owen helped me peel garlic and cut up some eggplant that we'd grilled the other day. Owen played it over and over (he IS like me in some ways.....in fact he was highly upset that the milk cartons at school have been changed....he likes the old ones better....that's my boy) and then suddenly said, "Mom, let's do a remix." I said, "uh, sure" and he proceeded to play that video and then on another tab start playing a different song at the same time. "Listen Mom, it's a remix!" God I love that boy.
