Hearts and Pumpkins
Kind of a lost weekend I guess. Friday evening in the emergency room. Saturday morning at the hospital after my mother had problems keeping her oxygen level up even with the oxygen in place. I went home eventually, took a shower and a nap. Felt pretty bad so Ernie went back and stayed with her awhile. Later he and Owen went over as well. I went to bed as soon as it got dark.
Got up today, still not feeling well----just can't kick this cough, exhaustion and heavy chest. We all headed to the hospital where my mother seemed pretty good and cheered by seeing her beloved grandsons. Ernie and the boys went to her house to check on her cat and pick up a few things while I stayed with her.
A cardiologist came in----her blood enzymes are showing that she could have had a mild heart attack yesterday. Her blood levels aren't great either so she is getting an infusion this evening. She had heart surgery ten years ago----when Leo was two months old----they may want to do a catheterization later in the week. Sigh.
(and yes, that is a vintage Vertebrats shirt he's wearing)
After we left we went and bought shoes for Owen and went to lunch at Fries and Peanuts per Leo's request. We got home sometime around 1:00 and I felt like it was time for bed......so I took a nap. I laid on the living room couch trying to will myself not to cough and listened to the boys run around the field with some other neighborhood kids----some kind of game based on covering each other with leaves and becoming zombies.... It was a warm and golden October afternoon.
Later they decided to carve pumpkins. Leo, of course, is going with a classic pumpkin....triangle eyes and nose, etc. Owen, on the other hand, is freehand carving some kind of battle scarred pumpkin. I'm not totally sure I get the concept but I am confident they will both be stunning.
