Weak Parenting Moments and the Ramones.....
I guess you could say I had a weak parenting moment last night. I was wiped out by the time I got homefrom visiting my mother in the hospital after work. We got the boys to take showers and wash theirhair----school picture day today. Then Owen, being the fashionista he is, starting getting all excitedabout what he would wear. I, ofcourse was picturing one of his button down Indiana Jones shirts or thelike. Owen…..well Owen REALLYwanted to wear his Ramones shirt. I protested and then I looked at his sweet little face and thought well, hell….if he feels good wearing his Ramones shirt…..then why not? He was so excited that he laid out allhis clothes for the morning. I wasimpressed with the detail-----note the placement of the shoe laces……
Ernie visited my mother during the day yesterday and I wentby after work and stayed for awhile. It was a hard visit. Themore time she spends in the hospital the more confused she becomes. She’s not normally confused and I knowthis is common with the elderly but it is of course still hard. My mother is usually a current eventsjunkie but she hasn’t watched the news or looked at the paper in days. She seemed sad last night, atone point asking the nurse, “do you think I should be in a nursing home?”
I spoke to one of the cardiologists. He said they would have her up and outof bed today and possibly do the heart catheterization later in the week. Her regular cardiologist has the flu.
When I left her room I felt so alone…..or maybe it’s just that mymother seemed so alone. I missedJudi so much it left me weak.
Maybe that’s why when Owen looked pleadingly at me while holding his Ramones shirt that I just smiled at him and told him that yes, he could wear that for school picture day.....
