Random Notes from the Sandwich Life

1.  Today is one of those days where I feel no sense of control WHATSOEVER over my life.  It's not that I ever AM in control it's just that sometimes I FEEL as though I am.  Not today though.  Met with a doctor about some issues yesterday and have decisions to make.  Tiring.  Then I trotted off to the nursing home and met with an administrator, nurse and a physical therapist and then visited my mother.  And everything is stressing me from the fact that I can't find her Medicare card to the fact that I know she can't be at home right now and yet after her being there just a few days I know I don't want her there.....  She's weak from being in bed for so long and needs to build up strength so she can transfer herself.....once she does that we can look at other possibilities....

2.  It kind of breaks my heart that Judi did this incredible work trying to improve quality of life in nursing homes and yet there is nothing here that we can afford or would meet her standards.  So here we are.  It just makes me tired and I have to work late tonight, Friday night and all day Saturday.  Listen to me whine....

3.  On a brighter note Ernie and I made cassoulet last night.  We're having Ann and Bob and Sophie over tomorrow evening and we are using them as guinea pigs.  If we like it I might make it for my December house concert potluck.  It looks pretty damn good....

4.  And on an even mmmmm.....I guess you could say brighter...note: Debbie's visit-to-Vermont-gifts arrived.  Wonderful cheeses and the like for Ernie, assorted cookingish things for me and......fart machines for the boys.

Yes....you heard me right.

They are little battery operated things that have a remote control so you can set them anywhere and have them uh, go off whenever you want......like when your mother is walking by them.....then you get to cackle hysterically.....

What can you say about a sister who would do this to me?  Huh?

I told Owen that maybe he should bring it to the nursing home.....

5.  And here's my sweet pea....  He'd been out playing in the park and I hadn't even heard him come in.  I walked out of the kitchen and saw him curled up there with Harry Potter and dirty knees and thought, "what a beautiful sight....."
