It's not Christmas Past yet.....

Ahhhh....  The house is in post-Christmas disaster....I woke up exhausted (couldn't sleep last night although I did read two books until the middle of the night) and all stuffed up.  So we canceled our afternoon plans (I'm awful sad to miss Curt and Sheena though---much love to you guys!) and are all collapsing for the day.  Which means Lego and video games for the guys, Ernie putting Lego together when asked and hopefully getting a chance for crossword puzzles and movies.....and I'm sitting here on the computer.....some holiday music to block out the noise of the video games....

One of these years I hope to not have an exhausting Christmas Eve but I suppose it's not all that likely.  This year was a bit more tiring because NOTHING says Christmas Eve like talking to 24 hour pharmacist about prescription coverage and the doughnut hole and running to a visiting nurse's house to pick up an overnight catheter bag the nursing home didn't send home.....  Ignore my grumbling though----Christmas Eve and Christmas morning were as magical as we could have wished for.  The boys got us up at 5:30 in the morning thank you very much but listening to Owen's heartfelt gasp of "OH THANK YOU SANTA" as he went down the stairs to see the tree and his yelp of "I GOT A GUITAR" and seeing Leo jump up and down when he saw his skateboard....well, it was all exactly as it should be.  There was Lego galore and books and Nerf guns from Santa and a Wii and more from crazy Aunt Debbie.....  And I must note that before Owen even opened any of his bounty he insisted on giving us our Christmas presents----he was so proud of them.  He got Ernie a wallet just like his and earrings for me.  Leo had given us his present the day before because he was so excited----it's a book on the Galápagos tortoises that he did at school and it is utterly amazing (I'm somewhat biased I know....but still....)

And now Ernie and I get to look forward to our Christmas present of David Olney on February 5.  Mark it down people....and I know Friday isn't good for some people (I'm talking to you Rob Arrol) but it will be WORTH it I promise you!

Christmas dinner turned our really well.  We did duck breasts with a sauce of mixed berries, red wine, balsamic vinegar and rosemary, roasted rosemary potatoes and spinach with garlic.....oh, and macaroni and cheese of course!  If duck breasts weren't so expensive I'd do them all the time.  I used one recipe for the duck breast and it came out PERFECT and another for the sauce.....

I'm not calling Christmas over....we're just starting the 12 days of Christmas and I hope to savor and enjoy them....there's still time for the Christmas cookies we didn't make and the Christmas music we didn't hear....  Merry Christmas all.....

a couple more pictures from yesterday morning....and yes...I AM the mother that wasn't going to let her children play with guns and yes that does appear to be a Nerf machine gun.....
