Random Weekend Notes from the Sandwich Life
1. This is one of my favorite old Christmas ornaments. We bought three of them at a flea market years ago....and through natural attrition we are down to one and the paint is growing more mottled.... I just love it....
2. THE HOLY LAND! Woo-hooooo! Their food is WONDERFUL. I found a copy of their menu online and we ordered a bunch of appetizers and a salad on Friday night and man oh man was I happy. The arabic salad was huge and wonderfully fresh.....and the kibbeh....well, what's not to like about "a shell of bulgar wheat and minced beef, stuffed with ground beef, garlic, pine nuts and spices, deeply fried?" Everything was really good and the prices were really reasonable. This is one of my favorite kinds of food so I knew I'd probably like it but I was really impressed with the quality. Let's ALL SUPPORT THIS PLACE!
3. A fire in the fireplace and Christmas trees.....can't complain....
4. I went to church with Debbie and Owen. We sat directly behind where I always sat with my father. I associate church so much with my father, and with his decline, that it's a bit hard to be there. Owen really loves it though so I need to make the effort to start taking him. He's already asked if we could go next week. Saw several people I knew from when I went with my father and they were very kind.... never expect people to remember me.... My Owen is really a special little guy with more than his fair share of spirituality. I'm not sure I understand where it came from but I really need to nurture it as it seems deep and true.
5. And of course Crazy Aunt Debbie (as Owen says, "in a REALLY good way though) bought wonderfully holiday-esque doughnuts after mass....
6. Tonight is Debbie's last night....she leaves early tomorrow morning. She's off at the nursing home right now. I'm taking advantage of her last day to NOT go....instead I am about to put an Asian inspired version of my six-hour roast pork....I'll let you know how it is....
7. I hope your weekend was good.... This song made mine just a teensy bit better...... Roy Wood and Wizzard....ahhhh....life is good....
