Yet More Random Notes
1. Ernie went with me to the hospital again today. It's awfully kind of him.....when I told him that he just kissed the top of my head and told me that there is strength in numbers. We drove to the top of the parking garage as we always do and on the way down in the elevator a woman said to us---out of the blue----"I'm going to have to take my dad's keys away." We just nodded and I said, "I know, it's so hard." We walked toward the hospital and Ernie said to me, "sometimes it's easier to tell someone something than to keep it in." I nodded and thought about how much I love him. Later as we were waiting for an elevator someone told us they were going home for lunch....cause it's cheaper. We just looked at each other and shrugged.
2. My mother was a bit better---in that she didn't talk about the Russians or the rewiring in the hospital because of them......but she still was not herself. Someone that didn't know her wouldn't know it but we did. It's just a different energy from her----it's just not her. She will probably leave tomorrow-----I asked her where she wanted to go and she said 'maybe the nursing home.' I'm really torn.......I know in many ways she's safer at the nursing home but you know what? In some ways I don't care. I used to think her safety was first but now I don't know. I just don't know.
3. I didn't want to go home yet so I asked Ernie to drive me through Carle park but the roads were closed. We headed to Woodlawn cemetery instead. An old Randy Travis cd came on and damn if it didn't sound like country music. Steel guitar? What's that doing on a country record? It was snowing and the songs were all sad ones.
4. The falling snow made me happy as we headed home. I put off going to see the Alvin and the Chipmunks movie for yet another day and we sit here again listening to music and feeling the warmth of the fire. And I listen to Ernie grumble goodnaturedly as he has to go out to get more firewood. The week is going by too fast and although it's not totally as I would have wished it there have been some awfully nice moments....
