A Hole FOR My Head or A Hole IN My Head?

oh good God....I need to dig a hole and bury my freaking head.  Two middle of the night phone calls from Lifeline about my mother the other night.  Ernie went over at 12:45 only to find that she just wanted to get out of bed, sit in the kitchen and have a glass of wine.  HUH?  He got her up and she assured him she could get back into bed no problem. I know, I know.  So 3:47 a.m. another phone call, another trip, paramedics and well.... DAMN if my sainted husband wasn't a little tired yesterday.  I called her and told her that emergencies were fine but that we weren't coming over just because she felt like getting up in the middle of the night.  She said, "I KNOW" in a slightly offended voice.

Yesterday afternoon her blood sugars were way out of control---they wouldn't even register on her glucometer----multiple calls to the doctor, went over, etc.  This morning a call at 5:40 a.m.....I guess she'd tried to get out of bed and go to the bathroom.  So much for all her assurances that she could transfer herself, huh?

Of course Owen laid there in bed next to me as Ernie came up to tell me he was heading over this morning....saying, "it's WORTH it though."  And I rubbed his back and said, "of course honey, it's always worth it to take care of people you love."  Sigh.  And honestly he hardly EVER sleeps with us anymore but sometimes it's really nice to crawl into bed with him and then we both read books lying next to each other until we fall asleep....

So we got up and the boys were HEARTBROKEN that they didn't get another snow day (and I swear to God I still don't understand a snow day for 6 inches of snow).  Leo growled the whole morning and probably all the way to school for all I know.  Owen sobbed and told me school was so hard because they just "PELT work at you."  My poor baby....who wants to be pelted?  He assured me that it's probably much harder than when I was in school.  I asked him why he was doing so great in school if it was so hard and he just shook his head sorrowfully at me....  Even the thought of Friday's pizza lunch didn't cheer him up.

Does anyone want to start some kind of betting pool as to when my mother will end up back in the hospital?

Writing about a hole FOR my head made me think of this song about a hole IN your head.  Have I ever told you that I have a deep, abiding love for Jim Lauderdale?  Mmmmmmm-mmmm.  Oh yes.
