More Lives Than a Cat

My mother....she has more lives than any cat I've ever known. 

Not enough time or energy to update you on the last two days....suffice to say she had a heart attack and tested positive for influenza and of course all that is on top of pneumonia and failing kidneys.  Last night the doctor called to tell me to be prepared for anything to happen overnight.  Needless to say I didn't sleep well.

This morning?  The doctor met me in front of her room in the ICU stepdown unit and shook her head and smiled while saying, "well your mother is doing much better than expected....she wants something to eat."  Mom smiled up at me and told me they'd given her a lovely bath in the night.  This is after I spent hours yesterday sitting by her bed with her not terribly responsive. 

Geesh.

Of course she still has all the same issues and her kidneys seem to weakening and I just don't know about dialysis for her so it's not as though she's out of the woods.  The doctor is going to have Palliative Care/Hospice contact me and of course now that my mother is more alert I can discuss some of these decisions with her.

I'm so tired I can barely see straight.
