Random Notes from the Sandwich Life
1. Yesterday we put on some music in the kitchen and Ernie delicately asked me if I had been playing it very loud in there.....I got defensive and said, "I don't know....maybe...why?" He grinned and said, "doesn't it sound like these speakers are blown....you know like the several other pairs of speakers that you've blown?"
Huh.
If you can't turn them up to ten then they shouldn't have ten on there....much less eleven for Christ's sake....
Hmph.
2. It's been awhile since we've had both sweet peas knocked out like this. Owen seems to be doing a bit better but Leo is really flat out sick. I hope he's o.k. for the funeral. Owen went so far as to tell me, "I like not having to go to school but it's better than vomiting...." Yet again....wise words from Owen.
3. Did I tell you that recently Owen referred to me as being old and when I protested he thought about it and said, "well, you're not OLD....actually you are YOLD----in between young and old." I tell you...that boy of mine is brilliant. Debbie asked him what she was and he wisely said she was yold just like me....when asked about his father though he cackled and said, "oh, well he's OLD!"
4. I went shopping today for clothes to wear to the funeral. Shopping for clothes being one of my most hated activities but I desperately need clothes funeral or no funeral. My mother always told me I wore too much black and wore my clothes too big so in her honor I brought some bright colors in a smaller size. Anything for you Mom....although I'll still probably wear black to the funeral....
5. When I was in junior high and high school my mom and I would both do crewel embroidery. It's kind of gone out of fashion but it's still around...I like the traditional Jacobean patterns the best. My mother mentioned it to Debbie on her last visit and told her how she and I had embroidered non stop through a winter Olympics many years ago. Debbie and I talked about it and started looking at embroidery kits online----she suggested that I get a kit and I could do it while I visit my mom at the nursing home. It was such a good idea----a way to help me get through those visits and my mom would love it----so I splurged and ordered a kit.
It came two days after Mom died.
I'm still going to do it though----I found some embroidery hoops at my mom's house yesterday and I'll think of her with every stitch.
6. You REALLY must watch this David Olney video of Sweet Poison. At least until after Sergio's guitar solo. Good lord but I love that man....well, actually both those men.... Very funny....and as Kristi Rose said today, "David Olney is so good, I can barely look at him." You can count on Kristi Rose for the perfect quote, huh?
