Random Notes from My Weekend

1.  Usually when Ernie does a show the days drag....this time they flew by.  And as I told him on the phone last night, usually I worry about him and miss him terribly but somehow knowing Owen is with him alleviated that.  He told me I was weird as he is wont to do (in a loving way of course) but oddly enough it was true.

2.  Leo and I have had a grand time, turns out he is great company at the grocery store, he had a successful sleepover with his friend at our house on Friday, then yesterday we went to lunch at Fries and Peanuts.  Of course turns out we were in the midst of the Illini game.  At one point Leo looked around at people hooting and hollering and leaned toward me and said, "uh Mom....they're getting agitated."  Good GOD I love that boy.  Afterward we went and rented a video and watched it (at 5:00 exactly per the schedule he had decided upon) while eating Cheetos.  Life is good, huh?  Afterward we worked on a jigsaw puzzle until I got too sleepy.  This morning I slept kinda late (you know when there's only one person in the bed you can sleep pretty damn well) and then we hung out together and had cinnamon rolls and worked on the jigsaw puzzle.  Then (at 1:00 exactly) we headed to the kids' museum.  We hadn't been in ages and I was afraid he was too old for it but he spent an hour racing around with a couple of older kids there and got pink cheeked.  We came home and I've been obsessively looking at recipes for dinner tonight and he's indulging himself with video games.  Later on we plan to work on some Lego together.  The house is as big a mess as it was when Ernie left but I've spent more time with my guy than I have in a long time so I say the hell with the mess.

3.  Spending so much one on one time with him reinforces the idea that we need to do this more often...something Ernie and I have been talking about of late.  The guys are close enough in age, and get along well enough (despite their protests) that we tend to always do things as a family.  As they get older though we're trying to make more of an effort to do things with them one at a time.  What happens though is we often fall into pairing off as me and Owen, and Ernie and Leo.  So when I acquiesced to Owen's idea of going to the show one of the reasons was that very fact.  As Owen said, "it will be nice for you to have time with Leo Mom."  Good LORD but that boy is insightful about people and relationships.

My sweet peas.

4.  I talked to Owen this morning and he told me he bought a piece of glass at the show.  "it's a piece of history Mom....it really is" he explained to me.  It's been a good weekend but I can't wait to have everybody home again....
