Random Notes from the Sandwich Life

1.  Ahhhhh....that Duran Duran video took me back.  For better or worse it took me back.  Can I just say that I really miss shoulder pads and big hair?  They worked well for me.....sigh.

2.  Actually a video FAR more appropriate to my life these days....on many levels....is this one by Tommy Womack from Music Fog.  Man I'm crazy about Tommy Womack....  I finally read his book The Cheese Chronicles.  It wasn't exactly what I expected....it was funny of course but I guess I expected it to be a collection of funny experiences but it was actually much more than that.  It was really thoughtful and a little sadder than I expected...although in hindsight I should have expected that from him really.  Of course the fact that I read it the evening of my mother's funeral while I was sick with the flu could have played into that.  Anyway---a book about the romance and the heartbreak of rock and roll.....about growing up too----really quite wonderful....

3.  I must say I am incredibly proud of Owen.  When he started his campaign to go tothe antique show with Ernie I figured it was just a clever way to get out of acouple of days of school.  Then wedecided it would be good for him---that he’d love being with Ernie and‘helping’ him.  I never dreamed hewould take it all so seriously.  Imean the little guy really helped and he worked damn hard.  He helped set up chairs and cords andchatted away to other dealers.  Hetold me he gave Ernie some ideas on how to set up the booth and “HE DID THEMTOO!” I don't think I've missed my mother more than when he came racing in the house Sunday night with his piece of glass to show me his piece of history and tell me about everybody he met at the show and what he did and what he saw and what they ate and all the rest.

4.  Sunday night he was laying curled up with me chatting away about his adventures.  I asked him if he met Mrs. Curtis and he said yes.  I told him I used to work in her antique shop when I was a little girl and he stared in shock and said, "that must have been a LONG time ago."  I'm not sure which of us was just slammed....maybe both of us.  Then he started telling me about other people.  He got to a couple of dealers he really liked, Richard and Frank.  He was describing them, "one of them is really tall and big and the other is shorter and they're really nice."  Then he paused and said, "oh, yeah.....and well, this is kind of awkward...but they're... uh...."  And I said, "oh they're gay, yeah, I know that honey" and he broke into a big smile of relief that he didn't have to explain this any further and said, "yeah, I really liked them."  Good lord he cracks me up.  What did I do to deserve these guys?

5.  You know spring is really here when the sedum pop through the earth looking like little baby cabbages....
