Random Notes from the Sandwich Life

1.  The other day as we were driving over to my mother's house to work I tried chatting to the boys in the backseat only to be met with silence.  I glanced back and they were both bobbing their heads to their music----Pendulum for Leo and some pop confection for Owen....  I shrugged my shoulder and put my own music on.  Evidently Owen turned his off for a few minutes later his little voice piped up and said, "you know Mom, the guy singing is right....we shouldn't EVER forget Martin Luther King."  I told him he was right and turned up the song for both of us.  So here is Owen's favorite Daddy / Will Kimbrough song.

and then one of mine:

2.  $117 at the vet yesterday for Miss Hattie.  Why, you ask?  Oh because evidently she got some poop matted in her fur and she's so fluffy you couldn't tell so it stayed there until it made her sore and start to lose fur.  Geesh. At least she feels better although she's still not herself.  I was afraid it was something more serious as she had stopped running around and was moving like she was a little old lady.

3.  Lisa commented that she though we only had Bob the cat.  Now I'll admit Bob probably gets more than his fair share of attention because, well...uh....he's Bob.  However Hattie is his mother and a tad crazy in her own right.  And then of course we had to take my mother's cat Annie.  Annie is finally coming out of the basement and spends a fair amount of her time upstairs.  Still a few howls and scrambles when she meets up with the other two but all in all it's going pretty well.

Here's Hattie with her pretty little face even if she does scratch the hell out of our chairs sigh.

And here's a not wonderful picture of Annie.  We've had Bob and  Hattie long enough that I admit I find that cats look kind of funny WITH tails...

4.  I'm feeling off kilter these days.  To be expected I suppose.  A friend who lost her MIL recently told my friend Boo that she is constantly feeling guilty----because she's used to thinking she should be doing something for her MIL.  And that is it exactly----I am constantly brought up short because I start thinking, 'oh you're having a good time right now but you've got to call/see/visit Mom in the hospital/nursing home.'  And then of course I realize that I don't.  It's kind of like when I first went back to work after having Leo.  I kept feeling as though I was going to tip over because I didn't have the weight of that baby holding me down.  And that's how I feel right now....that without the weight of my mother's care I feel as though I might just drift away.  Odd.

5.  In Spring Cure news, yesterday I got home and went through our pantry and threw away two whole garbage bags of food.  Many things with expiration dates of 2006----a couple going back to 2004.  Yikes. Tonight we work on decluttering.  HA!  That should go well....or NOT.....

6.  And last but certainly not least.....we have a new David Olney album to look forward to!!

7.  Oh, o.k....one more thing...and we had a frost last night....I hope the dogwood buds are o.k.....
