Spring Cure 2010---End of Week Two
O.k.....here were the tasks for Week Two. How did I do?
- Fix one thing in your apartment yourself. Ernie tightened the blades on the wobbly ceiling fan in the kitchen and replaced the lightbulb in the overhead lamp in the upstairs bathroom. Now for the first time in two years we'll be able to switch the light on when we walk in.... Geesh. Oh wait....to be honest...he hasn't replaced that light bulb yet...but he said he would and man....it's been a hell of day for whatever reason....but I think he will.....
- Clean your kitchen from top to bottom and throw away old food. Did every square inch get cleaned? Mmmmm, probably not---but damn close for us. Went through the pantry and threw two big bags of food away, purged my cookbook collection, went through the peninsula cupboard (we don't have an island....it's more like a peninsula) and got rid of plastic containers without lids, cooking equipment we don't use and cleared out enough space to put the bottles of wine that have been relegated to the corner of the kitchen counter. Cleared the printer off the peninsula---we don't print often enough for it to take up the space so we moved it to the mysterious room upstairs known as 'the fourth room'. By clearing out the wine bottles and moving the toaster to an unused spot by the coffee maker we made enough room to fit my food processor on the counter. It's something I love and use often and so despite adding to counter 'clutter' it's not worth having it underneath in a cupboard. The cupboards need to be rearranged and wiped out...and some of the refrigerator but that's for next time..... So overall...I think we did pretty damn good!
- Buy a water filter and use it. Done.
- Run your hands over every wall in your apartment. All of them? No, but some, particularly in the kitchen.
- Clear space for an Outbox. A spot near the recycling in the kitchen---not the best spot but the most practical.
- Clear one surface and use the Outbox. See above re: cooking equipment, cookbooks, etc.
- Buy fresh flowers. Yup. Ernie chose lilies because I asked for something fragrant.
- Determine your style. Mmmmm.....19th century/americana/eclectic????
- Find a new recipe and cook one meal at home. Oh good lord I do this all the time....not a problem.
- Choose the date for your housewarming. Uh, you know....I think I give plenty of parties so I'm not doing this. That being said we are itching to book another house concert.....any ideas?
Overall a somewhat exhausting weekend but pretty good nonetheless. The guys are in major disgrace so we're struggling with that a bit but as much as they make me want to scream I know that they are pretty amazing guys despite these rough spots. Went to a wonderful party (the inimitable Sasha you know....) and saw good friends and people I hadn't seen in awhile...it was lovely...and man does Sasha look great in heels or what?
Today saw a few more battles, moving of furniture, buying of lampshades and the like. Whew....life is pretty exhausting no matter what, huh? But good....definitely good....
Much love to all of you.....I hope your weekends were equally as good.....
