Random Notes from the Sandwich Life

1.  Wonderful night Tuesday night.  Got home to find the boys playing outside in the beautiful spring weather.  Ernie picked up the babysitter and we took off.  Stopped and had a drink at Fries and Peanuts and then headed over to Krannert Center.  Got a chance to talk to one of my favorite people that works there.  She warned me it would be a long show and she was right!  Called the babysitter at intermission and told her it was running late.  It started at 7:30 with J.J. Gray who I liked, then a longer set by Booker T which was wonderful, then intermission and then a long set by Mavis Staples.  Wound up a bit after 11:00.  Grabbed some fast food and headed home.

Mavis was amazing.  I love watching people who are great at what they do.  There's something so satisfying about it....whether it's watching somebody type quickly or watching Ernie pull out a record, flip it between his hands to check the condition and slide it back into the cover....you can just tell when someone is doing something really well and they've done it a million times....  And watching Mavis Staples last night was just that.  I suppose her voice isn't technically as strong as it was some fifty years ago but man, oh man.....there is strength and ease and power in it.  It was there when she spoke and even more so when she sang.  Ernie just sat there with a little smile on his face.  I love it when he does that.....

Of course I hate to think what we spent on this evening.....some $70 bucks for tickets, another $40 for a babysitter, a couple of drinks and some late night fast food.....oh well.  It was wonderful.  Music is so wonderfully reaffirming sometimes.....and that's important....money be damned!

2.  4th Grade Science Fair?  Just freaking kill me now.

3. It is spring in my garden.....my white bleeding heart is up....

4.  I'm always amazed by how muscular the peonies look when they come up....like fists punching through the ground, huh?

5. Ernie and I were both tired yesterday because we'd gotten to bed late and Owen woke us up at 5 in the morning.  And we were both kind of spacy and scattered.  When I got home from work I think I was driving him crazy and the realization came to me that I bet we fought a lot more when we used to stay out later.  See?  Getting old is good for some things lol....

6.  When we went to Prairie Fruits Farm the other day we bought some eggs from Tomahnous Farms.  I made hash with some left over pork and potatoes and put poached eggs over it last night.  The eggs were gorgeous, inside and out and tasted well, incredibly eggy!  Small pleasures, small pleasures.....

7.  Lots to do this weekend....I need to start narrowing down my to do list.  Let's see....meeting at the bank, some paperwork, 4th grade Science Fair project, my mother's house, OUR house....I hope it DOES rain or otherwise none of that will get done.....

8.  I just realized it's April Fool's day.  I suppose somebody will remind Owen of this fact while he's at school.  Sigh.
