Mandolined Fingers and Rattling Heads

 IMG_3692

Look at these slices of potato that I did on our mandoline.  Now imagine the top of my little finger looking like that.  Yeah, except blood is messier than potato juices (potato juices?  potato water?  potato what?).  I thought I was doing so good---using the little hand guard.....someone neglected to tell me that you should keep ALL of your fingers on said hand guard.  That little finger of mine was just waving around doing its own thing and it paid the price....

At that point I leaned over the kitchen sink bleeding and yelling and crying because it hurt like hell.  Owen rushed over and rubbed my back, telling me to breathe slowly in and out.  Actually, that helped.  Leo sat there with his big brown eyes huge with worry and the first thing he did this morning when he got up was ask me how my finger was.  Man, I love my boys.  Oh, yeah......my husband was wonderful too and took over making dinner....

This morning when the thunderstorms hit Owen crawled into bed next to me and flinched every time the lightning flashed.  I sleepily told him he was o.k. because he was with me.  He hugged me tight and told me that he loved me so much that whenever he thought about how much he cared for me....it made....his head....RATTLE.  I kissed him and told him he made my head rattle too.  Because good lord....he really does.
