Particularly Random Notes from the Sandwich Life

1. Usually by the time school starts I'm ready to be back in a routine.  This year?  Not as much.  I'm not quite ready to give up the liquidity of letting the boys stay up late and sleep late (although sleeping late for them is 7:30)....of having to think if they have clean clothes or we have the right things for school lunches...  But Ernie bought school supplies yesterday so I guess it really is coming.  Haircuts are planned and Ernie is taking them out for one last summertime lunch at Fries and Peanuts next week.  Sigh.

2.  Justin Townes Earle will be playing in Bloomington in October (damn but I wish it were the Rosebowl) and has a new album coming out.  You can download a preview:

3.  Forgive the blurriness but Ernie wanted to show how much he thinks the new Lego Luke Skywalker figure looks like Owen.  The boys made sure I was impressed with the "double sided printed torso" or some other technical Lego phrase like that of the figure as well.  There is  serious study of Lego going on you know....

4.  "Can I dump the tub of Lego out if I PROMISE to put it back in before bed?"  And amazingly enough....he actually did.

5.  I've decided in my search for the best coleslaw ever that a hit of horseradish does wonders.

6.  God....I really AM random today, aren't I?

7.  I'm a wimp about the heat but I hate not being outside.  When a storm blew up the other evening I scurried out to the front porch to sit and watch the clouds and the lightning and the rain.  Leo came out and sat there too.  He LOVES storms.  He sat there in an old green chair, holding a bowl of macaroni and cheese (they were actually shella, not macaroni, as once in awhile he likes to live dangerously) and laughing.  He'd stretch his arm out, holding his cup of water out the rain and say, "more water please!" and then just laugh and laugh as the cup filled up with rainwater.  I couldn't get over how beautiful his face looked as he did that.  My beautiful, beautiful boys.

8.  Can't wait for Peter Case!
