Random Notes from the Sandwich Life

1. The boys were on some kind of Lego high yesterday after having been gone from it so long.  They worked on their Star Wars base and then Parker and Dema came over to help and well.....all was right with the world.  It IS rather impressive, huh?

2.  Although I must confess an even greater fondness for the Lego Michael Jackson that Owen made.  Please note the white glove.

3.  One of my favorite parts of the trip was the whale watching tour we took.  I looked at a bunch of the options and chose the Sylvina W Beal out of Eastport because I knew Ernie would like the  99 year old sailboat.  I was a bit anxious about how the boys would handle it.  Whenever it was mentioned Leo just growled.  However once we got going he was just fine and I have a wonderful picture in my mind of him holding the binoculars, having just seen a whale, and saying "this is GREAT" and looking beautiful with that sweet smile of his.  Owen alternated between being nervous, getting upset when he missed a glimpse of a whale to being nausous to being utterly thrilled when he did see a whale and just repeated the whole cycle over and over again.  Somewhat exhausting but classic Owen.  I was kind of amazed at how many whales we saw-----whales and harbor porpoises and seals.  But most of all I just loved the feel of being on the boat, skimming over the water.  It's become my go-to good memory when I can't sleep or am trying to clear my mind of things I don't want to think about.

4.  One day we went over to Campobello, the island where FDR had a summer home.  I was pleased the boys seemed to like visiting it----the visitor center and then a tour of the home.  It felt like the kind of things we used to do when I was a kid.  Here's a picture of Owen working on the scavenger hunt they had for kids.  For some reason I just love this picture.

Nice set of Diamond Point flint goblets on the table.  Ernie asked and, if I recall correctly, they were a gift from FDR's in-laws.

5.  Ernie and I slipped away (thank you Debbie) and went to Annabell's on Sunday afternoon where they had music.  It was unexpectedly wonderful.  Wait, that sounds wrong---I just mean we enjoyed it even more than we expected to.  Of course the bartender Bernie, who was wonderfully charming and had a nice glint in his eye, remembered Ernie from last year.  I love that place.
