Random Notes from the Sweet Peas
1. On the trip home from Maine we stayed at a Residence Inn one night. The boys LOVED it. It had two bedrooms and a living room/kitchen. They liked the flat screen tvs and the fact that if you placed the ottomon just so in front of the king size bed you could run, jump and do a flip onto the bed. Me? I liked it because it had DOORS and I could close them!
The toilets in each of the bathrooms had a button on top of the tank to push to flush them. Leo walked in, inspected everything, came back out, commenting thoughtfully, "that's the most unusual flushing facility I've ever seen." What ten year old SPEAKS like that? Owen walked in, looked at it and came out rubbing his arms and shivering, saying, "that's creepy."
2. Yesterday Owen was walking through the living room drinking a glass of water. He looked over, stopped dead in his tracks and said, "I don't know what it is Mom but you look really beautiful." I thanked him and he went back to his water.
3. I had hoped to get Owen into a class with one of his friends this year but it didn't happen. Owen is a social little creature in some ways but doesn't always do well in groups and is WAY over sensitive (sound familiar anyone? Judi is probably laughing somewhere) and so he's had some rough times with other kids. I broke the news to him last night and he did the Owen slump. You haven't seen anything until you've seen the Owen slump. I can't even describe it----all his bones seem to liquify and he just kind of puddles low to the ground. He cried a little as I tried to reassure him. I told him I knew there were some other nice kids in the class and I told him I was so sorry----that I'd done everything I could. I guess I sounded upset because he paused, solidified, and said, "oKAY Mom.....maybe you should take some deep breaths. In through your nose, out through your mouth." I meekly thanked him.
4. Here is the Lego figure of my father, on his boat in WWII, courtesy Owen. He would like to display it on the mantel for Memorial Day, Veteran's Day and my Dad's birthday.
5. And last but not least here's a rare photo of Leo, sitting in a restaurant on Campobello Island. Debbie distracted him enough that I was able to slip in a picture before he got his hand in front of his face.
