At Loose Ends and Being Happily Sad
I feel a little at loose ends today. We had a wonderful brunch with lots of old friends at Original Pancake House so I'm still full and a little nostalgic and a little happy and sad at the same time----sort of happily sad I suppose, if that makes any sense.
Van's memorial was wonderful. Ernie and Owen represented the household in the recording of the iconic Logan Street song at Pogo Studios in the afternoon. Then later we gathered at Amara Yoga & Arts to listen to Roy, Jimmy, Kenny (Vertebrats all) as well as Tim McKeage and Todd Fletcher play songs---originals as well as some covers that reminded us of Van. Oops, and Paul Budin, I forgot Paul Budin!
Van's sister Libby was there Mississippi---she was lovely. I was so glad she could see how many friends here loved Van----and I could see Van in the angles of her face and that made me happy as well.
The hardest points of the evening were when Kenny sang a song he wrote called Natchez Trace.....and later at the Brass Rail when Roy played He Stopped Loving Her Today on the jukebox. That really got me...got me good. Van loved that song.
Lots of hugging and talking and taking of pictures.
You are missed Van. You are missed.
Thanks to all that made this happen, that were there and all that wanted to be.
