Ownie, Government Cheese and Bowie....
Ownie is the name I have come up for Owen when he uncannily becomes a small version of his father. Before he left for school today (I won't even go into the standoff we had when Owen was ready to go when Leo was and Leo refused to leave the house because Owen was going to walk with him and he can't stand that but Owen wouldn't leave until Leo did so they both refused to leave the house....) Owen came over to me in the kitchen where I was sitting waiting for the bathroom to be free and picked up a cd booklet and said, "what's this?" I peered at it because I wasn't wearing my glasses and finally said, "oh, that's the Government Cheese cd booklet." He scrunched up his face and said, "Government Cheese, that's a weird name." I just said "yeah" because well, it was early. Then he tipped his head to one side and said, "oh yeah, don't they have a book...called....mmmmm Cheese Chronicles?" I just stared at him and said "uh....YES....but how do you KNOW that?" He shrugged his shoulders and told me that Daddy had been reading it a few months ago. I just stared at him but then the bathroom was free so I kissed him goodbye and went and got in the shower.
Now....ask Owen what I told him to do five minutes ago....or whether he has homework....or anything vaguely practical and it's touch and go. But a book about a rock and roll band that he saw a couple of months ago....CRYSTAL CLEAR memory. It's like the time Owen all of a sudden started singing a perfect version of Starman because he'd heard it a month before on TV. No WONDER there's not room for practicalities in those blonde heads.....
