From Closings to Cancer to the Jim and Diana Syndrome

1.  I can't wait for the closing of my folks' house to be over tomorrow morning because that's all I can think of to blame for my out-of-sortness this week.  I suppose there's been more.  I'm getting over a cold....and because I was still a bit sick and had missed work on Monday I couldn't go with Ernie when he got his infusion on Tuesday and I hate that.  He tells me I don't have to go with him....but I do....maybe it's even for me....but I have to go.  So I found that difficult and then of course the final clearing/cleaning of Mom's house has been much more time consuming and difficult than I had thought it would be.

2.  And of course I was saddened by Elizabeth Edwards' death.  There were a lot of triggers in that situation....a woman stopping treatment and dying, a parent leaving two still young children....

3.  The other day Owen didn't want to go upstairs by himself and when I asked why he said, "well Mom, somebody DIED up there" and it broke my heart in several places.

4. I've mentioned here recently that Ernie and I have actually tossed around giving up antique shows for the time being.  So what did we do on Saturday morning with 8 inches of snow still falling?  Well, we drove out in the country to go to an antique show and find more things to seel.  This is what is known in the trade as the Jim and Diana Syndrome.  For years Jim kept saying they were quitting shows but they just kept buying.....I guess I understand....

5.  Two trees up and decorated, one tree with only lights.  We went through a lot of my parents' ornaments last night.  Unfortunately the boxes had been in their basement and evidently had a lot of mice in them.  Some of the ornaments were a bit damaged but there are still some wonderful ones.

6.  This Raveonettes song is one my current favorite Christmas songs.....

7.  I can't be too glum though.....it's Thursday, the closing is tomorrow and the party is Saturday and it will feel so wonderful to have so many friends and Fats and Kristi Rose all in our house.....can't wait!!!  And on a final note....I found these grade school ornaments of Judi (left) and Debbie (right)....they're a bit nibbled by mice but still wonderful!
