Pictures From the Fourth Room

Ernie pulled some boxes out of what has become known as "The Fourth Room" upstairs.  It's technically the fourth bedroom upstairs and has been used as a record room, an office, and a bedroom since we've lived in this house.  After Judi died we moved bedrooms around.  Leo moved into the room Judi had been in and Owen moved into Leo's old room.  This left the last room, the smallest of the four bedrooms, and because I wasn't ready to deal with figuring out what to do with a lot of Judi's stuff it all got piled into that room.  Of course then whenever we didn't know what to do with something, somebody would say...."well, just put it in, uh, the fourth room I guess."  So you can imagine what the fourth room looks like, huh?

Anyway----I knew there were some things we could sell at the antique show this weekend so while I was at work Ernie pulled out boxes from the fourth room.

Whew.

I'd forgotten that personal stuff was all mixed in with the antiques, etc.  We went through some and pulled some things out but got a little overwhelmed.  There was a small wooden chest that I told Ernie to go ahead and sell.  He lifted the top and it was packed full of pictures.  Ohhhhhh my.

I scanned just a few.

The first two are shots of the backyard of my grandparents' home in Portland, Maine.  It's funny, I dreamed about that house for years as an adult...it's just in the last couple of years that I have stopped.  It felt so good when I saw these pictures.  I wish I still dreamed about it but these will have to do.  You can see the little screened porch on the right side----I LOVED that porch.  That backyard is so familiar....I know exactly how those litte stone steps felt on my feet in the warm sun.....and then in the next one you can see my grandmother's rosebushes.  We didn't have roses in our yard so I just thought they were amazing....

Here's a picture of my parents at some dinner.  I don't know what it was as they didn't really like things like that.  THIS is what my parents are supposed to look like.  Like this.

You can tell all these pictures are form the 80s because of our glasses.  Owen told me I looked like Harry Potter.  Hmmmm.  O.k.  Look at the skinny young Ernie below sitting with my mother and Judi's friend Betty.

And my father watching Ernie open a present....  My Dad always had a cat in his lap and an empty glass of root beer or milk in his hand.
