Random Notes from the Sandwich Life

1.  Last night Leo started begging for us to clear the dining room table off so he could resurrect Lego City.  His father didn't seem to see the urgency in this request but I did so I told him where to set things that were in the way.  Ernie made some disparaging remark about Lego and Leo responded, "hey Dad, at least it's better than your fantasy life, yours just has a bunch of guitars in it."  Lego City vs. Guitars.  I don't know why but this entertained me immensely.  Lord I love that boy.

2.  Ernie was sad and almost crotchety last night.  Too much CANCER CANCER CANCER around us and he has to go and get his infusion today and sometimes it just hits him.  Sometimes I'm too blunt when I talk about his cancer and I fear I upset him the other day.  It's hard sometimes.  Just hard.

3.  Pat DiNizio was absolutely wonderful---really one of our best house concerts....although actually they've all been great.  He told a lot of stories surrounding each song---ranging from childhood to experiences with the band---and was really delightful.  I think I grinned like an idiot the whole time but that's just what I do when I'm feeling happy.  He really has one of the most distinctive voices and phrasing in music.  Oh, and he said nice things about my friends and signed Owen's guitars so all in all....one of the best Sunday afternoons I can recall.  I can't wait for the new Smithereens album.

4.  I LOVE LOVE LOVE this picture of Ray and Eamon---and the one of my beloved Mel.  You are a wonderful photographer Richard!!

5.  There will finally be a mayoral debate....at the Champaign Public Library on Wednesday, March 16th and I have to WORK that night.  Damn, damn, damn....  I will send my representative I guess.  I normally never begrudge having to work some evenings and weekends but in the next month they run smack dab up against other things I REALLY want to do.  Eh.  Oh well....

6.  My crocuses have buds on them....I bet if it's sunny today they will bloom.  Spring really is coming....
