House Concerts and Science Fairs
I got home from work around 9 pm last night to find Leo had finished his science fair project (yay) and that Owen had just revealed that he had to write an essay. I was so tired I couldn't even glare appropriately. I tried to be cheerful and helpful (ha!) and asked him what the topic was. He gave me a look much like the one he gave me when he received the disappointingly small gun...and told me it was 'his three favorite things in 3rd grade.' I agreed it was a hard topic and as we sat there he tried to delay things by discussing the science fair.
Owen: Can you come to our science fair tomorrow?
Me: I'm not sure honey, I'll try but it depends on work.
Owen: You know what some girl said to me? She said, "Your mama can't hear."
Me: Really?
Owen: And I said, "Is that the BEST you got?" (this was complete with the neck roll and finger waving)
Me: Nice comeback.
Owen: The thing is Mom, you really can't hear....no offense.
Me: Yeah, but she doesn't know that.
Owen: I KNOW. I really want you to come to science fair so they can see you.
Me: I'll try, honey, I really will.
So Ernie and I showed up at his science fair. It turns out he was one of only four doing the presenation. And you know what he did? He looked at us and then whispered to his friends, "well, THIS is embarrassing...."
The little shit.
My beloved little shit.
I also attended Leo's and heard his presentation earlier in the day. My sweet peas. It was a good day for science.
And on another note----thanks SO much to Meg Dickinson and Darrel Hoemann for the article on house concerts in the News-Gazette. I got downright giggly seeing the picture of our living room at the top of the front page and smack dab on the E3 cover! Poor Tom Mason looks great but didn't get his name in there somehow. He and Phil Lee were absolutely amazing that night and I highly recommend checking them out---we will definitely be planning a return visit for them as well.
If you ended up here from the News-Gazette article by chance----we have a facebook page for our house concerts but if you're not on facebook just email me your email address and we'll send info that way. Next up is David Olney and Sergio Webb on Friday, August 19th. This is a return visit because they were amazing when they came last February. They are lovely people as well so it really will be a not-to-miss show!
Oh, and Claire Cannon and David Garcia are in these photos as well!!!
