Wine Bottles of Olive Oil...and Tom T. Hall

Easter dinner ended up being a so-so affair.  I made Ernie mandoline a stack of potatoes (the family does not allow me near the mandoline anymore) so I could make this potato dish that looked wonderful but I ended up overcooking it.  You'd think that would just make the potatoes crispier and more delicious but no...it just made the brown bits hard to eat.  Sigh.

At one point while cooking the asparagus I moved the pan so the handle wouldn't be in my way.  Unfortunately the handle then got in the way of a wine bottle full of olive oil...and tossed it dramatically to the floor.  Wine bottle + olive oil + red ceramic tile.  A picture-perfect smash but a bit of a disaster.  Do you know how long that takes to clean up?  No, I don't either because I was on the phone with my sister Debbie and Ernie sent me and my bare feet into the other room.  The day kind of deteriorated from there.  This seems to be my recent holiday theme....I've got to work past this because I've always loved holidays.  I got mad at the boys for their sense of entitlement which really means I'm mad at myself for not asking more of them.  Eh.  Eventually Owen and Ernie went and sat with some neighbors around a firepit and Leo and I both went up to read.  It's really quite nice when we're both in our respective beds reading because periodically I can yell out "I LOVE YOU LEO" just so I can hear him quietly respond, "I love you too Mom."  I mean I can feel him rolling his eyes but it's still nice.

Now it's Monday and grey and foggy and the boys don't have to go to school and yet again I'm jealous.

HowEVER. The new album that Peter Cooper and Eric Brace have put together,  I Love:  Tom T. Hall's Songs of Fox Hollow, is fabulous.  Thanks guys!
