Popcorn Night

Last night was a popcorn night.  I don't know why....I just felt tired for no reason whatsoever.  Ernie and I sat outside in the front yard....talked about fences (anybody have recommendations for local fencing companies?) and watched the neighborhood troupe of boys play in the overgrown field next to us.  Given that it's owned by Bernard Ramos I doubt it will get mowed anytime soon but the boys have found they can hide from one another in the "prairie" as Owen refers to it.  They were all so beautiful.....laughing and running and rolling.  My sweet Leo took a more scientific approach and brought binoculars out to assist with locating hiding opponents.

Later Owen went with Ricky to watch a Little League game at Eisner Park.  Owen took his week's allowance and spent every penny of it.  A hot dog for him, a ring pop for Ricky, a ring pop for Leo, a bag of potato chips for his father, a bag of Cheetos for Leo's lunch today and two, count 'em TWO Butterfingers for me.  That boys will never have a penny to his name.  He was so pleased with himself though....junk for everyone.  I guess we'll have a talk this evening about the fact that I don't need multiple Butterfingers etc. but I couldn't dampen his pride last night.

Of course a few minutes ago he told us we were ruining his life because we refused to write a note to his teacher saying that he couldn't write because his thumb would sting....  Sigh.  Then again last night he looked at me and said, "who wouldn't love you Mom?  You're so sweet and nice and kind and careful."  Careful?  Hmmm.  That boy will be the death of me but Good Lord I love him.
